Non-Executive
Recruitment
Dear Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of L&Q. I’m delighted that you’re exploring this opportunity at such an important moment in our journey.
L&Q is one of the UK’s largest and most influential housing associations, built on a long‑standing social mission and a deep responsibility to the residents and communities we serve. We are focused on making a lasting, positive impact for the people who rely on us. Our aim is to provide safe, high‑quality homes and services, and to act as a long‑term steward for the communities we support. It’s this commitment to our residents, today and in the future, that drives how we work and what we continually strive to improve.
What sets L&Q apart is the scale and complexity of our work. We manage a vast and diverse housing portfolio, serving customers with a wide range of needs across multiple regions, regulatory frameworks and service environments. Our operating model spans everything from long‑term asset stewardship to customer‑facing services, major development activity, community engagement and large‑scale transformation programmes. We employ 4,000 colleagues across five directorates: Customer Services, Finance, Governance and Transformation, HR and Property & Investment. Our teams are diverse both in terms of the people who are part of them, and the roles they deliver, which range from maintenance operatives and caretakers, to construction workers, supported housing assistants, and office-based support teams.
This breadth and depth demand strategic leadership that is commercially astute, grounded in empathy, and capable of navigating complexity while holding firm to our purpose. Few organisations combine a mission of this importance with such significant reach and operational sophistication.
We are now strengthening our Board with leaders who bring deep experience of large‑scale, customer‑focused organisations, people who understand what it takes to deliver trusted services at scale, day in and day out, for customers whose needs evolve over time. As a Board, we are increasingly focused on embedding customer voice and experience at the heart of our strategy, risk, performance and transformation. To do this well, we need colleagues who have led complex operating environments, championed service improvement, and delivered meaningful change through people, data and digital innovation, and who do so by truly listening to our customers, understanding their experiences, and navigating the regulatory environment that shapes how we deliver safe, reliable and compliant services.
This is a pivotal moment for L&Q. We are progressing major transformation initiatives, reviewing our governance to ensure it is fit for the future, and sharpening our long‑term strategy so we can meet the needs of residents today while preparing for tomorrow. As a Board Member, you will help steer this evolution, providing both robust challenge and thoughtful support as we shape the next phase of L&Q’s development.
The housing sector itself is one of the most vital in the country, touching public policy, economic stability, community wellbeing and, above all, people’s lives. Few sectors offer such a clear opportunity to make a direct, lasting impact on society. As a Board Member at L&Q, you will influence decisions that affect hundreds of thousands of people, helping strengthen the quality, safety and trust that underpin our role as a social housing provider.
You will also be joining a thoughtful, values‑driven and forward‑looking Board. We pride ourselves on an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives genuinely shape our decisions. We are visible, engaged and committed to continuous improvement, and we are looking for someone who shares that mindset.
If you are motivated by purpose, excited by complexity, and driven by a commitment to long‑term stewardship and exceptional customer experience, I hope you will consider joining us. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to our mission and help shape the future of one of the UK’s most important social organisations.
Thank you again for your interest. I look forward to reading your application.
